Julieanna Preston  Massey University, New Zealand

Julieanna Preston is a sole practitioner of Building Arts Practice in Wellington, New Zealand and a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Victoria University of Wellington. Her practice as an academic and designer is grounded in her education at Virginia Tech (BARCH, 1983) and Cranbrook Academy of Art (MARCH, 1990). Julieanna’s teaching and creative work exemplify her commitment to design research through making across several scales and medium including full-scale constructions and installations coupled by collaborative and interdisciplinary inquiry. Recent publications include INTIMUS: Interior Design Theory Reader (Wiley, 2006), “Soft Stuff” in The Sensuous Intellect (McLeod, Pringle & Kaltenbach, eds., RMIT Press, 2006) and “Ro:oM, Spatial and Material Transmissions” in IDEA Journal (Attiwill & Lee, eds, QUT Press, 2005). In 2007, Julieanna embarked upon a large project called SHE-space, which forecasts several exhibitions and essays on the relation between feminist spatial theory and interior finishes and construction.
